Marketing strategy · Bangalore
I help founders and brand teams make better marketing decisions.
What should the brand stand for? Where should it show up? What is actually worth spending money on? And once you've figured that out, how do you make sure the work is good enough to matter?
I've spent 17+ years working across brands, agencies, strategy, creative and production. Today, I bring that experience to businesses that need a sharper point of view, whether that's defining a brand, solving a marketing problem, building a campaign or simply having a senior person in the room to challenge the thinking.
I don't start with a list of deliverables. I start with the problem you're trying to solve.
For when the brand needs a clearer point of view.
Positioning, proposition, audience, differentiation, brand architecture and messaging. The work is about figuring out what you should be known for, and giving the rest of the organisation a clear direction to build from.
For when you know you need to grow, but aren't sure what marketing should actually do.
I work with founders and leadership teams to identify the opportunity, sharpen the priorities and build a marketing plan that connects business objectives to channels, communication and action.
For when you have a big brief, a launch, a product or a business problem that needs a bigger idea.
I help shape the brief, find the strategic and creative territory, challenge the work and stay close enough to the making to make sure the idea doesn't get lost along the way.
For businesses that need senior marketing thinking, but don't need another full-time hire.
A regular strategic partner to pressure-test decisions, review plans and work, guide agencies and teams, and help make the calls that are difficult to make from inside the business.
Projects typically begin at ₹2.5L. Larger strategic engagements are scoped around the problem and level of involvement.
I've spent enough time in boardrooms and edit rooms to know that a good strategy can still produce bad work.
So I work a little differently.
Before we talk about campaigns, content or channels, we figure out what actually needs to change. A perception. A behaviour. A business number. Sometimes the answer is marketing. Sometimes it isn't.
A strategy shouldn't leave you with a beautiful deck and a team wondering what happens on Monday morning. The thinking needs to translate into decisions, priorities and work that people can actually make.
I don't believe the strategist's job ends when the presentation does. I like being close to the work as it gets made, because that's where the important decisions, compromises and opportunities tend to show up.
I've been in advertising and marketing since 2009, and somewhere along the way my job stopped being just about making campaigns.
Today, I'm a Founding Partner at Talented, the agency I help build and run in Bangalore. I work across strategy, clients, business and production, which means I've spent a lot of time seeing what happens to a good idea after everyone leaves the meeting room.
I've worked with large brands, ambitious founders, big teams and very small ones. I've sold the work, made the work, defended the work, fixed the work and occasionally wondered why we were making it in the first place.
Alongside Talented, I help run Ritu's Handlooms, my family's Assamese handloom house founded by my mother in 1991. Building something of my own has given me a completely different perspective on brands — the patience, economics, craft and emotional investment that come with building something you actually own.
I think good marketing needs three things: clear thinking, a strong point of view and the ability to get things done.
That's what I bring to the table.
Things I've noticed. Things I've changed my mind about. Things I can't quite stop thinking about.
I spend most of my days thinking about brands, businesses, people and why we make the choices we do. Sometimes that turns into a strategy. Sometimes it turns into an argument with someone in a meeting. And sometimes it is just something I saw, read or experienced that stayed with me.
This is where I put those thoughts.
Some of it will be about marketing and brands. Some about creativity, culture, business and building things. Some of it may have very little to do with any of those things.
Just things worth thinking about.
